When you do a Google search first it displays the page title, then the Snippets and then the page url. This article is not about the Page Title or the Page URL, rather it is about the "Snippet". Let's discuss about 'What is a Snippet' , 'What are the different parts of a Snippet', 'How Google choose which part of the snippet to show' and etc. So Snippets can be best defined as those lines than are displayed below the page Title in search results.
Google reserves the right to change the snippets and make it as useful as it possible for users. Now you might be thinking from where the Snippets come from ? In most of the cases Snippets comes directly from the meta description of the page but sometimes it comes from many different places, suppose for example Google didn't find meta description or tags for any reason, then it puts its own logic to create the snippets. It may search the open directory projects like Domz to find out your site and take the snippets from it. Else it may also pull the Snippets from the contents of the page.
Snippets are really very important because a perfect description can attract the visitors to click on it and come to your site. So it is directly proportional with your website traffic. So don't neglect and start giving wonderful meta descriptions or Snippets to your page titles.
